Baby Steps to Storybook Farms quilt

This was the first block assembled. And this the fourth. (These are pinned to the planning wall - still a lot of work to be done.) This is the second and third blocks. I didn't realize the two blocks went together, or I'd have done the tree in one piece. Also, my house is tipsy - I didn't realize it until I took the picture. Drat! When quilt designer McKenna Ryan came out with this quilt in 2004, my sisters and I really hoped to get the pattern. I finally did, and it has sat in my sewing room since then. About time, right? (Now, I have to solve the problem of how to straighten the house.)

It's an iMac!

There is no picture to go with this posting - In the last two weeks, we've (1) bought an iMac, (2) figured out most of it, (3) wrestled with the mail, and finally have it working, (4), added Fusions software so that we can run Windows system on it so that I don't have to change my genealogy program (Legacy), cussed and discussed, and tried to figure everything out at once. The old computer needed to go. Tony had built it for us a long time ago, and it's a testament to his ability that it worked so well for so long. I've now gone from 34KB on the hard drive + 32KB on an external hard drive to a terabyte on the hard drive. It's a whole new world!

Seth & Denton Visit

As you can tell, the conversation was serious! Ron and Seth deep in conversation. University of Wyoming student, Seth, and brother Denton from BYU-Idaho. We enjoyed these two young men - Denton enjoying college at Rexburg, returned from his Michigan mission last October, and Seth, coping with my old alma mater in Laramie, ready to put in his papers for an upcoming mission. We had a good time - lots of food, some pool to play, and lots of visiting made for an enjoyable time.

Rylee - another picture

Rylee is our sixth great-grandchild. We have only seen Suzanne and Jonathan's Blake, but we are grateful for modern technology which allows to see these precious babies and children from afar.

Rylee - the Newest Member of the Family

Brittany's Rylee, born last Friday morning - pictures Sonja sent. Beautiful baby! We hope for the best for her life. Newborn babies always make me think of Wordsworth's lovely poem that includes the idea that babies come from heaven afar, trailing clouds of glory.

The Allure of a One-block Wonder Quilt - and other important Items

I'm not as faithful as brother Dwight in checking who visits my blog site - and I've been pretty dilatory the last few weeks in keeping things up. However, it was interesting this morning to do a Google search on one-block wonder quilts, and find that my Crystal Prisms blog has moved up to the second page. And, it is of great family interest to note that our granddaughter, Brittany, gave birth to a baby girl on the morning of the 5th of March. A 8 lb, 5 oz. girl with the name of Rylee Bo. Sonja and Bethany have gone to Bend to help. This makes our 5th great-grandchild. Are we moving along the path of life a little faster than we really like? The world does go on, and it seems to go faster and faster these days.

Yes, Judy, we still have a bit of snow

When I called sister Judy on the phone yesterday, I found her out in the garden digging and having fun with grandson Joel. She asked me if we still had snow. I thought it worthwhile to show that it is beginning to melt. Above is the path for neighbor's dog, Bo, who comes to see us every morning for his bony treat. See the receding snow?
And in the front, you can almost see the big pot at the foot of the steps.
We are told that the snow pack in the Bear River Range is down this year - all we've seen is white, except for the dark band of the orchard. The snow is usually frozen so hard in the mornings, after the compacting warmth of the day before, that the animals can walk around on top, leaving interesting footprints. The left-to-right path a little over halfway up on the picture is made by the neighbor kids trekking off to school.
