Spring Flowers - At Last!

The daffydowndillies have come into town, in their yellow petticoat and white  gown....Remember the old nursery rhyme?  At last we have some spring, and the tulips are either blooming or beginning.  To my sorrow, though, tulips that I planted 16 years ago are getting smaller and smaller - does that mean I need to dig up and replant this fall?  Does sound like a lot of work, doesn't it?  The glories of spring overcome the labors of fall, right?  Except 16 years ago, it was much easier to get up and down.  It takes me ever so much longer to get things done, so it's just as well gardens have shrunk through time. Perennials are beginning to take over where annuals had to be planted.   Life is a trade-off - we gain knowledge and experience, but trade it for less mobility.  Perhaps that's because there is so much time spent sitting while absorbing that knowledge and forgetting about fostering the mobility?

The Importance of Grandma in Our Lives

I was able to get some photos from Sonja when she visited us recently.  This one of her and her granddaughter, Rylee (Brittany's) is reminiscent of photos I have of Mother with some of my children.  The trust and sweetness in this picture are an evidence of the two-way love between grandparent and child.   Even though children don't see grandparents as often as we would like in this time of scattered families, I would like to think that children hold grandparents in a special place - I know that, as a grandma, I certainly do wish the best for my grandchildren - even if it's been a long time since I've seen some of them. We still greet them with joy and a special feeling when we do get to see them.

Family Visitors

We were glad to have Arrilla, Bethany, Benjamin, and Sonja here for a couple of nights and a pleasant day. Bethany will be graduating from high school this spring, and plans to go to BYU-Idaho in the fall. Such a good idea to go look over the campus so that it won't be so strange when she comes next fall. Of course, brother Denton and his wife, Taylor, are already students there, so she won't feel all alone. Going to college at 18 was one of the biggest adventures of my life, and I expect it to be the same for my grandchildren.

Quote for April 1st

Turning the calendar over for a new month always gives me a new perspective. I try to find a Mary Englebreit calendar for each year, because I find her drawings enchanting, and the quotes she finds to enhance them are wonderful. The encouraging quote for April, "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, ANYONE can start from NOW and make a brand new ending." Attributed to someone named Carl Bard. That saying fits in perfectly with some of the General Conference messages we heard this Sunday morning. It's never too late to begin!
