Picture From the Past

This is a faded picture from a  long time ago.  My first-born son, Brig, with curly blonde hair, and a winning smile. My photo program doesn't offer enough help to make this picture more clear, but it still is a charming picture.

Ingenious Apple Cider Press.

This receptacle is above the garbage disposal, which grinds up the apples.  (It is a chicken feeder pan.)
The new garbage disposal is very strong, and the ground-up apples go into a bucket.
This separate frame holds the reinforced bucket (with holes).  A jack is used as the press, and reinforced hardwood circles keep the jack from buckling.

Don't ask me the rest of the process.  Ron understood it very well.  Brig and Linda have raised many apple trees on their property, and wanted to make cider.  However, the cost of an apple cider press is very expensive, so they found these items on sale, built the frames for them, and last year, froze many bottles of cider.  I guess this is an example of the saying, "Where there is a will, there is a way."

Family Visit

Taking digital pictures under certain light does make for interesting coloration.  Unfortunately, it is difficult to take pictures of Linda's beautiful blue eyes.  After all the difficulties the family has undergone, she is still smiling -
Is Brig's hair really that gray?  He didn't use hair color like I did for so many years.
Trevor, the youngest of their four children is on his way to U of Wyoming - He is as tall as his father - we feel like midgets around this very tall family!  Trevor has grown up to be a very engaging young man - you can see the shine in his eyes.  Hope his college career goes well!

Happy Birthday, Brig

We left Brig at the MTC in Salt Lake City (before the MTC in Provo). I look at the small amount of luggage, and think about how meager his preparation was for the two years in England as compared to our missionaries today. Mother and Daddy had come to Powell for his farewell, and we all went to Salt Lake. It was quite a forlorn feeling to leave him behind when we went back home. One of Brig's school pictures - he looks pretty young - probably 6 or 7. (Is that a scab under his lip?) Doesn't he look innocent? Brig is about 3 or 4 - this picture was taken in our yard in Riverton. The smile has endured. We hope this is a very happy birthday - the years have certainly hurried by, and Brig has had his share of challenges and blessings in his life.
